The Bucs (2-14) missed the playoffs for the seventh straight season, finishing with their worst record in 28 years. Barring a trade, they'll have the first overall pick in the draft for the first time since 1987, when Vinny Testaverde was the selection.
The Bills announced in a news release Monday that Ryan has been hired to take over as coach. The news came a day after the former New York Jets coach tentatively accepted the Bills' contract offer. Ryan replaces Doug Marrone, who stepped down abruptly on Dec. 31.
Knighton has said he wants to finish his career in Denver, but he's also said he wants to keep playing for Jack Del Rio, who was hired as Oakland's head coach after the Broncos bowed out of the playoffs. Del Rio drafted Knighton in Jacksonville and was his defensive coordinator in Denver.
"It depends on who the player is and where your cap situation is. But Adrian Peterson, like I said earlier, is a pretty unique talent," he said.
Oral arguments in the case are not scheduled to be heard until February.
